The Closet

I'm trying to organize my house while the three older kids are at school and the baby rests in the afternoon. In fact, my goal is to have our home so well put together that when the winter humdrums arrive and we all start to go a little stir crazy in our small house, my husband will see how MUCH SPACE we really have to live here, and he won't start convincing me that we need to move into a house as big as this one.

Oh, I still covet that house. And I dream of it. Often. It's ONLY problem, seriously was the TOO HUGE master bedroom (HELLO? ...HELLO? ...hello? ...hello? Honey - are you in here ...in here ...in here...) and for whatever inane reason a too small dining room. (But hey, it HAD a dining room, which is more room than this house has!) But I LOVE this house (OK, it's the backyard I love. And all the fixing-up we've done inside. It basically IS a new home after all my husband's handiwork!) I don't want to move. Ever. (Have I ever told you I have issues with change?)

So, I'm organizing. Really, because it MUST be done. We cannot live like this. I won't live like this. (My husband won't, either!) I'm doing one project at a time. Well, really, I have about 5 or 6 going at any given time, but not only do I not like change, I also don't have a long attention span, and I quickly grow tired of one activity and move onto another for a while. Then I don't ever really get back to the first one, and, well, it's a cycle, guys. I'm just saying.

So, here's my hall linen closet. It's really the ONLY closet, but we'll call it the linen closet just for fun. And because I got waaay carried away before I realized what I was doing, just imagine (I know it's hard to imagine SUCH clutter, but try) a whole load of towels SHOVED into that middle space before I stopped and shot the photo. Again, YES I AM EMBARRASSED TO SHOW YOU THIS. But I INSIST upon keepin' it real, Folks!

So, here's the sort-of-in-the-middle-of-demo-before:

And here's the after:

I had to shoot it with flash because it's just such a small, dark space. But, just imagine a pretty pale blue on the walls (vs. the ELECTRIC blue you see here). I used a power drill, Baby. I'm feeling pretty good about this one. And I promise to keep it simple. Forever. Amen.

Love it! I hate change too. Jonathan had to correct me about 8 planets...now we are just a "My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine" ...no Pizzas or Pickles here! Good idea painting the closet!!!

Ok, I'm not sure what or Who inspired this post of yours but it was as always Perfect timing. You also as always knew just what to say w/o seeming to even try. I know God has a better plan for us and our future home. Who knows, maybe our landlords will decide to sell us the one we're in. Anyway, thanks for this post on The Closet as it was just what I needed to keep my life and dreams in perspective. Oh, that "Off" feeling I had yesterday turned out to be the beginning of a end of summer cold from my daughter. YEAH!

Beautiful closet. I have a huge walk in that needs attention. Want to come over? I will fix lunch. It is not a clothes closet it is a storage closet. Maybe I will post it someday.
BTW I know you will be back on Wednesday. You will wake up and that little question will start haunting you. What did Gramma post today. I will go see, no I won't , yes I will, and off you will go.
See you next Wednesday if not sooner. Aren't you glad we have BK and McD's etc?

Wow, I'm never, ever, ever taking a picture of my closets. They are a nightmare. I dream of getting organized, but when it comes right down to it, I spend way too much time doing THIS....

The closet looks so good you could probably just take the door off and then it wouldn't be so dark anymore. Great job! I need to organize some closets. We only have 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, so when we have another baby we probably will have to move.

One of my issues is all the baby stuff. Don't want to get rid of it because we're not done, but we don't.have.room.

I'm taking a break from organizing my vanity and bathroom to see you... with a closet to be proud of! Job well done.
Thank you for your kind comments about my brother. And I do love a funny picture. ;)

That closet looks so great. Well done! I really need to do some organizing around my house, too.

The photo was taken before the rudeness or check insued. I guess I should have clarified that part too. The thought to ring the guys neck didn't cross our minds as we were too shocked. We just laughed even harder I think that the guy felt he needed to take the mug away to insure it's safety. Oh well, we got a good laugh and story out of it aye?

That is such an incredible closet makeover!! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving some encouragement... :) Blogging is therapeutic, I agree - sometimes you have to share your stress with the blogging world rather than weigh your family down with it!!

Looks great in there. I need help. Nothing is organized here. I will take some inspiration from you and your projects.

Wow, you could take the door off that closet now! What a treat to open it up and see everything looking so neat and pretty. I have seriously got to tackle all our closets this fall -- especially my craft closet in the hall. During my last pregnancy, I got big enough that I couldn't squeeze into it, so I would just pile everything in and sort of lean into it to find what I needed. Now Emma is 2, and I'm still leaning into it! So that closet might be first on my list!
