Your Attention Please. Seriously.

Hey, ya'll. Can I tell you that it is VITALLY important that you review your bank statements on a regular basis?! My husband reviews ours daily. I'm not saying that a daily review of the statement is necessary, but please please please look at it. Today we noticed a $59.95 charge on our DEBIT card. As you know, Mr J and I run marathons and half marathons. We have used our credit cards to pay for these races. Today, Active.com, the company who mediates the payments for the races, charged us $60 without our authorization to 'join their club.' You may immediately think, yeah right - you probably just forgot...etc. etc. etc. But no. This was an UNAUTHORIZED debit from our primary checking account. We would not have known had we not checked our debits and credits lines diligently. And this is not the first time we have been bamboozled.

Last week, upon reviewing our AT&T bill, my husband noted an additional charge for a professional voicemail system that we never signed up for. He called and discovered that the company had 'received authorization' via an email address - that has never been ours.

Please. Review your statements. And call on them to make sure your fees are fully recovered. Thus far, AT&T has rectified their issue fully and we are awaiting a return call from Active.com.

edited to add: active.com canceled our 'trial membership' today, indicating via email their sadness at our sudden departure. hmmm. didn't really know the ship was sailing til I was thrown in the life boat. Whatever. At least the problem is solved!

You know I lost my debit card the day before I left for Cali. Praise God, I called and closed the account before there was any unauthorized activity on it.
Love Frizzy to death by the way. Bird is way cool too and what can one say about Yaya? We did have a great time visiting with them on Monday evening. Had to drag the girls from the pool so we could continue on our journey.

Isn't Gramma just the sweetest thing ever?! Her daughter Gina too! Had fun with them and wished they could have stayed over night. Maybe another time. We've had issues on our cards that we've argued too. We watch them pretty closely though I've gotten kind of relaxed about it lately. In this economy CC/DC theft is bound to get worse.

Mine goes through ours twice a month. It does help, but we've been really lucky on that kinda thing. At least with our checking account. I refuse to use my debit card on line.. period. We only use paypal (which *knock on wood* we've been very lucky with so far) and a credit card not attached to our checking account. You are not as protected by Visa/MC for fraud if it's debit card. Different laws cover the fraud. We have, however, had FOUR Citibank cards closed for "compromised" information. We don't even realize it's happened until we try to use the card or we go to pay the account and the online account is showing zero balance. Very strange. Luckily, it's always turned out ok for us. I'm glad AT&T has been so cooperative and I hope Active.com will be as helpful.

Wow...that is nuts! I don't use my debit card for anything....I have a low limit card that I only use for online purchases and I always know what I've put on there! Crazy stuff..I hope it all gets taken care of for you.
