"I wasn't ready!"
Remember when you were a kid playing Hungry, Hungry Hippo with your brother, and suddenly he started pounding on the black lever at the end of the hippo's bootie on his side of the board, and his green hippo scarfed up all the white marbles before you even started to push your lever down, and you totally lost the game, but you shouted: I wasn't ready! in whatever effort you could summon to avail the opportunity to start over?
Remember?
This morning I wanted a re-do. I wanted one more lazy day of summer lounging on the couch watching the same episode of Hannah Montana for the eighteenth time or packing the kids into the van for one more outing or sipping a lemonade by the pool while they laughed with their friends and fought over the water toys. I wouldn't even overreact to the fighting. I promise...just one more time.
One more minute.
Please?
I wasn't ready!
I'm not ready.
And yet, they were.
I guess that's how it's supposed to be.

Love the post and I love the pictures. If only we could stop time...or at least slow it down.
The first day comes way before we are ready! I have one more week with mine--then I will be sending my oldest off to his first day of middle school--I definitely want a re-do!
sniff, sniff! I love the pic of sashi. Please tell me she wasn't crying because everyone was gone. So sad!
I do not like the first day of school. I was going to use the "H" word, but maybe that is to strong a word to use on a family blog.
Ahhh, mama. I won't be ready either when our summer is over! I love the pic of Sashi with her tears...must be exactly how you felt!
I loved and hated that game for exactly that reason! Darn Marc always trying to get ahead.
We went to our first parent's night or open house for Yaya tonight. We are saying the exact same thing to ourselves. We're not ready! Unfortunately she's on the other side screaming. "I'm ready now!" The emotional "tug of war" continues.
Your kiddos started EARLY! Kids around here still have aweek or two off yet!
Hope the first few days have gone well and you are enjoying your time at home with your little one!
Take care :)
I'm still not ready, and I haven't even made it to monday yet. *pout*
Girl, we are cut from the same cloth! Even as I was bawling on our first day of school, I joked with Joe when he hugged me (dry-eyed and unemotional) and said he loves his tenderhearted wife, that it is a burden to be so sentimental. Some beautiful writing can emerge from it, but feeling those feelings can be so heavy. Sometimes I wish I could approach things with Joe's level, analytical attitude. But then again, I wouldn't trade my tender heart and the love it holds for my family!
